IRTA Summer Luncheon

Today was summer luncheon of our local 90 unit of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association at the upscale Inverness Golf Club, attended by 70+ retirees. It again featured wonderful conversation and top-of-the-line food. Below are Len (our president), Marlene, Dave, Patti, Ellen, and Rick, our guest from the IRTA. Diners had a choice of Cobb salad, Chicken Waldorf Salad, our our choice, Tilapia Provencal with rice pilaf and green bean bundle, preceded by a tasty cream of asparagus soup and followed by chocolate explosion with ice cream.

A highlight is always Bob Lyons' update regarding the state of the Illinois Teacher Retirement System. Bob, a former colleague from District 211 as well as a fellow cross country coach, is one of our two retired teachers elected to the TRS board, and his succinct and enlightening insights into the finances of TRS and the peculiarities of the Illinois political process are always educational and much appreciated.

The we took advantage of the sunny but windy 80 degree day and biked 14 miles on the Millennium Trail and had the whole thing to ourselves! Alas, a turtle was the only wildlife we spotted on the trail, and he was ON it, heading to the pond on the other side.
